Built in 1982, by Eastern Marine Incorporated of Panama City, Florida (hull #74) as the Chief Cloud for the Chesapeake Marine Partnership of Norfolk, Virginia.

The Chesapeake Marine Partnership is a subsidy of the Vulcan Materials Company Incorporated of Birmingham, Alabama.

The Chesapeake Marine Partnership later renamed the tug as the Night Falcon.

In 2010, the Chesapeake Marine Partnership renamed the tug as the D. Grey Kimel.

She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,350 horsepower.
