Built in 1982, by the Dravo Corporation of Neville Island, Pennsylvania (hull #8485) as the James H. Carey for M/G Transport Services Incorporated of Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 1994, the tug was leased to Superior Barge Lines Incorporated of St. Louis, Missouri. Where she retained her name.

In 1996, she was acquired by Superior Barge Lines Incorporated of St. Louis, Missouri. Where the tug was renamed as the Admiral Cockburn. Where the tug was operated by Inland River Towing Incorporated of St. Louis, Missouri.

In 1996, the tug was leased to Brown Water Towing Incorporated of Greenville, Mississippi. Where she retained her name.

In 2000, she was leased to American Commercial Barge Line Incorporated of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2003, the tug was acquired by the Ozark Transportation Company of Ash Flat, Arkansas. Where she was renamed as the Captain Bear Ivie. And, was operated by Western Rivers Boat Management Incorporated of Ash Flat, Arkansas.

In 2007, she was acquired by the Marquette Transportation Company of Jefferson, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the C. Michael Reeves.

Powered by two, Tier III compliant, EMD-12-710G7C diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.345:1. Turning two, Avdl 108(in) by 117(in), stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers, mounted in kort nozzles. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 6,140 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, John Deere 6081 generator sets. The tug's capacities are 138,024 gallons of fuel, and 1,505 gallons of lube oil.
