Built in 1967, by St. Louis Ship Incorporated of St. Louis, Missouri (hull #2326) as the Elaine Jones for the Canal Barge Company Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 2000, the tug was acquired by the Marquette Transportation Company of Jefferson, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Stephen L. Colby.

Powered by two, Tier III compliant, EMD-12-710G7C diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.074:1. Turning two, Avdl, 108(in) by 107.5(in), stainless steel, fixed pitch propeller, in kort nozzles. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 5,600 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, John Deere 6090 generator sets. The tug's capacities are 103,185 gallons of fuel, and 1,496 gallons of lube oil.
