Built in 2002, by Marco Shipbuilding Incorporated of Seattle, Washington (hull #489) as the Response for Crowley Marine Services Incorporated of San Francisco, California.

Designed by Engineers, and Naval Architects, with input from Crowley's ship assist, and escort customer, the Alaska Tanker Company. The Response class tug is based on the lines of the tug Boxer. Which is owned owned by the Bukser Barging Company of Oslo, Norway.

She was the first Response class tug constructed for Crowley Marine Services Incorporated by Marco Shipbuilding.

The tug is capable of providing in excess of 320,000 pounds of steering, or braking force. And, can safely escort vessels at speeds over 12 knots, made possible by elements of the design in the hull shame, and skeg lines. As well as, the Voith/Caterpillar propulsion package, and the Markey hawser winch.

Powered by two, Caterpillar 3608 diesel engines. With two, Voith-Schneider cycloidal drives, for a rated 7,200 horsepower.

The towing equipment consists of a Markey DESS-52, single-drum, electric hawser winch. Which was designed specifically for the vessel.
