Built in 1981 by Dakota Creek Industries at Anacortes, Washington (hull #12) as the Arctic Bear for Alaska Marine Lines Incorporated of Juneau, Alaska, a subsidiary of Lynden Incorporated of Seattle, Washington.

Powered by two Caterpillar 3512B diesel engines. With Reintjes reduction gears at a ratio of 4:1. Turning two propellers, for a rated 2,100 horsepower.

Her electrical services are provided by a John Deere 90kW generator set. The tug's capacities are 29,750 gallons of fuel and 350 gallons of lube.

The towing equipment consists of a Markey TYS24 towing winch. Outfitted with 2,200(ft) of 1.75(in) towing wire.
