Built in 1972, by Gladding Hearn Shipbuilding of Somerset, Massachusetts as the Pilot Boat Thomas Knox for the Boston Pilots Association of Boston, Massachusetts.

She was later acquired by the Boston Fuel Transportation Company of East Boston, Massachusetts (a subsidiary of the Reinauer Transportation Company of Staten Island, New York.). Where she was renamed as the Ranger.

The vessel was later acquired by and individual named Michelle Rousseau of Marlborough, Massachusetts. Where she retained her name, and was redocumented as a recreational vessel.
