Built in 1967, by the Dravo Corporation of Neville Island, Pennsylvania (hull #5018) as the Steel Clipper for Ohio Barge Line Incorporated of Dravosburg, Pennsylvania.

In 1984, the tug was acquired by the Ingram Barge Company of Nashville, Tennessee. Where she was renamed as the Thomas R. Vorholt.

In 2010, the Ingram Barge Company renamed the tug as the James Paul Ayers.

In 2022, she was acquired by Imperial River Transport LLC. of Dunlevy, Pennsylvania. Where the tug was renamed as the Mackenzie Rose.

Repowered in 1990, she is driven by two, GM 16-645E2 diesel engines. With Lufkin reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.08:1. Turning two, fixed pitch propellers mounted in kort nozzles. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 4,200 horsepower.
