Built in 1968, by Southern Shipbuilding of Slidell, Louisiana (hull #79) as the Natchitoches (YTB-799) for the United States Navy.

Her keel was laid on the 24th of June, 1968. The tug was launched on the launched on the 9th of January 1969 and delivered to the United States Navy on the 29th of May 1969 where she was assigned to service at Boston, Massachusetts.

The tug was eventually reassigned to service at the Naval Station Puget Sound, Everett, Washington. And again to the to the 6th Naval District at Charleston, South Carolina.

It is unknown when the tug was placed out of service, she was struck from the Naval Register on the 13th of October 1995 and transferred to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she was renamed as the D. L. Billmaier .

She is a single screw tug rated at 2,000 horsepower.
