Built in 1955, by Welding and Shipbuilding Incorporated of Costa Mesa, California (hull #1) as the Elsa for Francis P. Jones of Long Beach, California.

In 1968, the tug was transferred to the Jones Tug and Barge Company of Long Beach, California. Where she retained her name.

In 1982, she was acquired by Thomas J. Zumwalt of Costa Mesa, California. Where the tug retained her name.

The tug was later acquired. by the General Petroleum Corporation of Rancho Dominguez, California. Where she retained her name.

General Petroleum Corporation was later rebranded as Maxum Petroleum Company Incorporated, an independent subsidiary of Pilot Thomas Logistics LLC. of Fort Worth, Texas.

In 2024, the tug was phased out of active service and was "laid up" at Los Angeles, California.

Powered by two, John Deere 6135 diesel engines. With Twin Disc 5114 reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.95:1. Turning two 48(in) by 24(in) fixed pitch propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 900 horsepower.

Her electrical power is provided by one, 25kW generator set. Driven by one John Deere 6045 diesel engine. The tug's capacities are 4,000 gallons of fuel, and 600 gallons of water.
