Built in 1979, by McDermott Shipyards Incorporated of Amelia, Louisiana (hull #246) as the Gulf Star for the Sheridan Towing Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A subsidiary of Ira S. Bushey and Sons Incorporated of Brooklyn, New York.

In 1977, Ira S. Bushey and Sons Incorporated was acquired by the Amerada Hess Oil Corporation of New York, New York. To form the Spentonbush-Red Star Companies of New York, New York. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1989, the Spentonbush-Red Star Companies were acquired the Amerada Hess Oil Corporation of New York, New York. Establishing the Amerada Hess Oil Corporation's marine division.

In 2001, the Hess Oil Corporation's fleet was acquired by Leevac Marine Incorporated of Jennings, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the Gulf Service.

In 2002, Leevac Marine Incorporated merged with Hornbeck Offshore Services of Covington, Louisiana. The two companies formed Hornbeck Offshore Transportation Services of New Orleans, Louisiana. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2013, Hornbeck Offshore Transportation's tug division was acquired by Genesis Marine Company of Houston, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2017, the Genesis Marine Company renamed the tug as the Genesis Glory.

Powered by two, EMD 16-645-E6 diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.957:1. Turning two, fixed pitch, high efficiency, four bladed, propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 3,900 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 125kW generator sets. Driven by two, GM 6V-71 diesel engines. The tug's capacities are 126,538 gallons of fuel.

The tug's towing equipment consists of a single drum, Markey towing winch. Equipped with 2,000(ft) of 2(in) diameter stainless steel towing wire.
