Built in 1969, by McDermott Shipyard of Morgan City, Louisiana (hull #159) as the Phillips Foss for the Foss Maritime Company of Seattle, Washington.

In 2004, she was acquired by the SeaCoast Transportation Company of Seattle, Washington. Where she was renamed as the Pacific Freedom.

In 2007, the SeaCoast Transportation Company was acquired by the K-Sea Transportation Partnership of East Brunswick, New Jersey. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2011, the K-Sea Transportation Partnership was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

Powered by two, twelve cylinder, EMD 12-645 E2 diesel engines. Turning two, cast steel, fixed pitch propellers. For a rated 4,500 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 90kW generator sets. The tug's capacities are 72,000 gallons of fuel.
