Built in 1965, by Hillman Barge, and Construction of Brownsville, Pennsylvania (hull #520) as the Shirley the O.F. Shearer and Sons Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 1973, she was acquired by the Indiana-Michigan Power Company of Larkin, West Virginia. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1992, the tug was acquired by the Madison Coal and Supply Company of Charleston, West Virginia. Where she retained her name.

In 2010, the Madison Coal and Supply Company, become Amherst Madison Incorporated of Charleston, West Virginia. Where the tug retained her name.

Powered by two Caterpillar D353D diesel engines. She is a twin screw pushboat, rated at 760 horsepower.
