Built in 1970, by Main Iron Works of Houma, Louisiana (hull #235) as the Achilles for the Sabine Transportation Company of Port Arthur, Texas. A subsidy of the Chromalloy American Corporation of St. Louis, Missouri.
In 1980, the Chromalloy American Corporation was acquired by the Sequa Corporation of New York. Where the tug retained her name.
In 1992, the former assets of the Sabine Transportation Company where acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.
Repowered in 2005. The tug is driven by two, Volvo D25 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at ratio of 4.6:1. She is a twin screw, square bow, push boat. Rated at 1,200 horsepower.
