CAPT. L. MATHIASEN

Built in 1919, by Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding of Green Bay, Wisconsin as the Green Bay for the United States Shipping Board.

Towards the end of World War I, contracts were placed for over one thousand wooden ships, tugs and barges. However, most of the contracts were cancelled. And only five hundred eighty-nine ships were completed. Most of those completed were tugs, that where built by established boatbuilders. The completed vessels where placed up for sale.

The tug was acquired by the Federal Shipbuilding Company of Newark, New Jersey. Where she was renamed as the Federal No. 2.

In 1936, she was acquired by the Moran Towing Company of New York, New York. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1936, the tug was acquired by the Koppers Coal Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Where the she was renamed as the Mercury.

In 1947, the tug was acquired by Daniel McAllister of the McAllister Brothers Towing Company of New York, New York. Where she was renamed as the Capt. L. Mathiasen.

The tug is no longer in documentation. Her current and or final disposition is unknown. She was a single screw tug rated at 450 horsepower.
