Built in 1901, by T. S. Marvel Shipbuilding of Newburgh, New York (hull #135) as the New York Central No. 1 for the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Railroad Company of New York, New York.

The tug was later acquired by the P.F. Martin Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Where the tug was renamed as the Ionian.

In 1948, the P.F. Martin Company was acquired by the McAllister Brothers Towing Company of New York, New York. Where the tug retained her name

In 1951, the McAllister Brothers Towing Company renamed the tug as the Joan McAllister.

In 1970, the tug was acquired by of Captain Arthur Fournier of the Eastern Maine Towage Company of Belfast, Maine. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1977, the Eastern Maine Towage Company became the Penobscot Bay Towing Company of Belfast, Maine. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1981, she went out of documentation. Her current, and, or final disposition is unknown. The tug was single screw, rated at 225 horsepower.
