LT - 62 MAJ. RICHARD M. STRONG

Built in 1944, by the Calumet Shipyard and Drydock Company of Chicago, Illinois (hull #158) as the LT-62 (MAJ. Richard M. Strong) for the United States Army.

In 1951 the tug was acquired by Island Tug and Barge Limited of Vancouver, British Columbia. Where she was renamed as the Island Sovereign.

In 1960, Island Tug and Barge was acquired by McAllister Towing of New York, New York. Where the company became a subsidy of McAllister Towing Limited Montreal of Montreal. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1969, Island Tug and Barge Limited was acquired by Genstar Limited of Vancouver, British Columbia. Where the tug initially retained her name.

In 1971, Genstar Limited partnered with the Dillingham Corporation to merge Island Tug and Barge with the Vancouver Tug Boat Company, creating Seaspan Marine Incorporated of Vancouver, British Columbia. Where the tug was renamed as the Seaspan Sovereign. She was a single screw tug, rated at 2,200 horsepower.
