The unit was designed by Guarino and Cox of Covington, Louisiana. She is "married" to a 185,000(bbl) barge, the Kirby 185-01. That was constructed in 2015, by Gunderson Marine of Portland, Oregon for the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas.
Outfitted with an INTERcon Series 50 coupler system. She is Powered by two, twenty cylinder, Tier III compliant, EMD 20-710G7C-T3 diesel engines. With Reintjes WAF 5666 reduction gets, at a ratio of 5.864:1. Turning two, Nautican fixed pitch propellers, mounted in kort nozzles, wth triple rudders. She is twin screw tug, rated at 10,000 horsepower.
Her electrical service is provided by two 215kW generator sets. With a third 215kW auxiliary generator set. The tug's capacities are 150,000 gallons of fuel, 20,000 gallons of potable water, 1,109 gallons of hydraulic oil, 5,019 gallons of lube oil, and 150,000 gallons of ballast.
