Built in 1977, by the Whaling City Dredge and Dock Company as the Babe Rutka for the Whaling City Dredge and Dock Company of Groton, Connecticut.

In 2008, the Whaling City Dredge and Dock Company was acquired by Mohawk Northeast of Plantsville, Connecticut. Where the tug retained her name.

Powered by a single Detroit Diesel 12-71 diesel engine. With a TD514 reduction gear, at a ratio of 4.5:1. Turning a single, stainless steel, fixed pitch, propeller. For a rated 425 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by a single 20kW Norpro generator set. The tug's capacities are 2,200 gallons of fuel, and 35 gallons of lube oil.
