Built in 1974, by the Fredeman Shipyard of Carlyss, Louisiana (hull #111) as the W.F. Fredeman Jr. for the Port Arthur Towing Company of Port Arthur, Texas.

In 1995, the tug was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where she was renamed as the City of Redwood.

Powered by two, GM 16-645E2 diesel engines. With Western reduction gears, at a ratio of 4:1. She is a twin screw, square bow, push boat. Rated at 3,800 horsepower.
