Built in 1981, by the Crumpler's Shipbuilding Company of Orange, Texas (hull #838) as the J.E. O'Donnell for the Binion Marine Service Incorporated of Houston, Texas.

In 1983, the tug was acquired by Hollywood Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she retained her name.

In 1999, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

Repowered in 2001, the tug is driven by two Volvo D34A diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 7:1. She is a twin screw, towboat, rated at 1,600 horsepower.
