Built in 1972, by Main Iron Works Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #262) as the National Ranger for the National Marine Service Incorporated of St. Louis, Missouri.

In 1987, the tug was acquired by the Stokes Towing Company Incorporated of Greenville, Mississippi. Where she was renamed as the Katy P.

In 1990, she was leased to Western Kentucky Navigation Incorporated of Paducah, Kentucky. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1992, the tug leased to the Lemont Harbor and Fleeting Service Incorporated of Lemont, Illinois. Where she retained her name.

In 1995, she was leased to Southern Marine Services Incorporated of Port Allen, Louisiana. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1998, the tug was leased to the American Commercial Barge Line of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Where she retained her name.

In 1999, she suffered a fire. The tug was salvaged, and rebuilt by John Bludworth Marine Incorporated of Corpus Christi, Texas.

In 2000, the tug was acquired by Capital Towing Limited of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Kimberly Jane.

In 2006, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name. And, was operated by Capital Towing Limited of Houston, Texas.

In 2009, the tug was returned to the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where she retained her name.

In 2018, she was phased out of active service, and was "laid up."

In 2019, the tug was acquired by Industry Terminal Salvage Company Incorporated of Industry, Pennsylvania. Where she was renamed as the Marne B.

Repowered in 2001, the tug is driven by two Caterpillar 3512 diesel engines. With Reintjes reduction gears, at a ratio of 3.9:1. She is a twin screw, towboat, with kort nozzles, rated at 2,600 horsepower.
