Built in 1975, by Halter Marine Services Incorporated of Pierre Part, Louisiana (hull #468) as the Capt. Miller.

In 1976, the tug was sold. Where she was renamed as the John F.

In 1981, she was sold. Where the tug was renamed as the Shaver.

In 2000, the tug was acquired by the Smith Maritime Company Honolulu, Hawaii. Which was a part of the Hawaiian Interisland Towing Company of Honolulu, Hawaii. Where she was renamed as the Nokea.

In 2007, the Smith Maritime Company was acquired by the K-Sea Transportation Partnership of East Brunswick, New Jersey. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2011, the K-Sea Transportation Partnership was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where she retained her name.

She is a twin screw tug, rated at 2,250 horsepower.
