Built in 1979 by, the United Shipbuilding and Repair Company of Vinton, Louisiana as the Nickie B. for the Binion Marine Service Incorporated of Houston, Texas.

In 1997, the tug was acquired by Hollywood Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she retained her name.

In 1998, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2018, the tug was phased out of active service, and was "laid up."

Repowered in 2001, the tug is driven by two Mitsubishi S6A3-MPTA diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 6.53:1. She is a twin screw, towboat, rated at 960 horsepower.
