Built in 1968, by Main Iron Works of Houma, Louisiana (hull #202) as the Dixie Volunteer for Dixie Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas.

In 1998, she was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.

Powered by two, Volvo D25 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.6:1. She is a twin screw, square bow, push boat, with kort nozzles. Rated at 1,200 horsepower.
