Built in 1965, by Universal Iron Works of Houma, Louisiana as the Santa Gertrudis (hull #59) for Tidewater Marine Services Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 1991, the tug was acquired by Westar Marine Services Incorporated of San Francisco, California. Where she was renamed as the Bearcat.

Powered by two, Cummins QSK19-M diesels. Turning two, stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated 1,320 horsepower.
