Built in 2009, by the John Bludworth Shipyard of Corpus Christi, Texas (hull #126) as the John Cox for Florida Marine Transporters Incorporated Mandeville, Louisiana.

In 2009, the tug was acquired by Genesis Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Red River Express.

Powered Cummins QSK 38 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 7.22:1. Turning two, 82(in) by 69(in), stainless steel, fixe pitch propellers. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 2,600 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two 99kW generator sets. Driven by two, Cummins diesel engines. The tug's capacities are 37,000 gallons of fuel.
