Built in 1999, by Thoma-Sea Boatbuilders Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #116) as the Nutmeg State for the Gateway Towing Company Incorporated of New Haven, Connecticut.

In 1999, the Gateway Towing Company renamed the tug as the C. Angelo.

In 2020, the Gateway Towing Company ceased operating towing vessels. And the tug was acquired by Ashton Marine Company of North Muskegon, Michigan. Where she was renamed as the Meredith Ashton.

Powered by two, Tier II compliant, Caterpillar 3516 diesel engines. With Reintjes WAF 861 reduction gears at. ratio of 4.995:1. Turning two, 90(in), five bladed, fixed pitch propellers, mounted in kort nozzles. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 4,000 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 75kW, Lima generator sets. Driven by two, Tier II compliant, Caterpillar 3306 diesel engines. The tug's capacities are 65,000 gallons of fuel, 6,200 gallons of potable water, and 2,100 gallons of grey water.

The towing equipment consists of a double drum, McElroy ST-65-DH towing winch. Outfitted with 2,000(ft) of 2(in) towing wire on the primary drum, and 2,000(ft) of 2(in) towing wire on the primary drum.
