Built in 1975, by Allied Shipyard Incorporated of Larose, Louisiana (hull #150) as the Ted for Allied Marine Service Incorporated of Larose, Louisiana.

In 1982, the tug was sold, and renamed as the Malolo.

She was later acquired by the Dunlap Towing Company of La Conner, Washington, where she retained her name.

Powered by two, Caterpillar 3516-D diesel engines. with Caterpillar reduction gears, at a ratio of 7.41:1. Turning two, 104(in) by 86(in) fixed pitch propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 3,420 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, Delco 60kW generator sets. The tug has a capacity for 79,376 gallons of fuel.

The towing gear consists of a double drum, Markey towing winch, outfitted with 2,600(ft) of 2(in) towing cable on the primary drum. Also equipped with a Markey bow winch, outfitted with 2,250 (ft) of 2 (in) towing cable.
