Built in 1978, by the Louis G. Ortis Boat Company of Krotz Springs, Louisiana (hull #41) as the Caroline Thwing for the Loyd W. Richardson Construction Corporation of Aransas Pass, Texas.

In 1992, the tug was acquired by Brown Water Marine Services Incorporated of Ingleside, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Brown Water I.

Powered by two, Volvo TAMD165 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 5.27:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 800 horsepower.
