Built in 1970, by Southern Shipbuilding Incorporated of Slidell, Louisiana (hull #87) as the Rusty B. for Nolty J. Theriot Offshore Incorporated of Golden Meadow, Louisiana.

In 1979, the tug was acquired by the McAllister Brothers Towing Company of New York, New York. Where she was renamed as the Dianne C. McAllister.

In 1984, the McAllister Brothers Towing Company renamed the tug, as the Roderick McAllister.

In 1993, the tug was acquired by the Oscar Niemeth Towing Company Incorporated of Oakland, California. Where she was renamed American Eagle.

Powered by two, twelve cylinder, EMD diesel engines. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 4,200 horsepower.
