Built in 1952, by the Gulfport Shipbuilding Corporation of Port Arthur, Texas (hull #388) as the Atlantic 5 for the Atlantic Richfield Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In 1974, she was acquired by the Crescent Towing and Salvage Company Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the Duane Smith.

In 1981, the Crescent Towing and Salvage Company Incorporated renamed the tug as the Mobile Bay.

In 1992, the Crescent Towing and Salvage Company Incorporated renamed the tug as the Mardi Gras.

In 2010, the Crescent Towing and Salvage Company Incorporated renamed the tug as the Port Allen.

Powered by a single, Alco 16-251F diesel engine, with a Reintjes reduction gear, at a ratio of 4:1. For a rated 3,000 horsepower.
