JARRED GRIFFIN

Built in 1981, by Adams Boat Builders Incorporated of Lockport, Louisiana (hull #106) as the Jarred Griffin for SeaBoats Incorporated of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

The tug was designed by Naval Architect Jonathan Laiby of Woods Hole, Massachusetts for Donald Church Sea Boats Incorporated of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

In 2005, the tug was acquired by United Tugs Incorporated of Harvey, Louisiana. Where she retained her name.

In 2019, United Tugs Incorporated was acquired by La Carriers Transportation Services Incorporated of Larose, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the John Boy.

Powered by two, Detroit 16-V 149 diesel engines. With Twin Disc MG 540 reduction gears, at a ratio of 6.18:1. Turning two, 77(in) by 72(in), fixed pitch, four bladed, stainless steel propellers, mounted in nozzles. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 2,000 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two, 40kW generator sets. Driven by two, Detroit 4-71 diesel engines. The tug's capacities are 3,800 gallons of fuel, 500 gallons of lube oil, and 7,000 gallons of potable water.

The towing equipment consists of a Smatco, double drum, waterfall, towing winch. Outfitted with 1,800(ft) of .5(in) towing wire on each drum.
