The Texas Fuel Company was founded at Beaumont, Texas in 1902 upon the discovery of the Spindletop oil field. Soon after, the company reformed as the Texas Company, abbreviated as "Texaco." In 1928, Texaco became the first U.S. oil brand to be sold nationwide under a single brand name.
In 2001, Texaco was acquired by the Chevron Corporation, where it continues to operate as an independent subsidiary.
