Founded in 1967, by the VanEnkevort family of Escanaba, Michigan. When the family acquired as stone quarry that lead the the acquisition of their first towing vessel, the Olive L. Moore.

In 1979, the company acquired their first self-unloading vessel. The S/S Buckeye. The VanEnkevort tug and barge company converted the vessel to a barge. Until the unit was retired in 1990.

In 1998 the company installed a Hydraconn unit on their 10,000 horsepower, twin screw, tug the Joyce L. VanEnkevort.

The company transports products such as Taconite, iron ore, limestone, aggregates, coal, sugar stone, mill scale, pig iron, and slag.
