Built in 1970, by by McDermott Shipyard Incorporated of Morgan City, Louisiana (hull #161) as the Guardian Crowley Marine Services Incorporated of San Francisco, California.
She was the fourth Sea Swift class tug constructed by McDermott Shipyards for Crowley Marine Services Incorporated.
In 2018, the tug was "laid up" at Lake Union in Seattle, Washington.
In 2019, she was acquired by the Pacific Tug Company of Coos Bay, Oregon. Where the tug was renamed as the Maverick.
Powered by two, sixteen cylinder, EMD 16-645-E5 diesel engines. With Falk reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.345:1. Turning two, five bladed, fixed pitch, stainless steel propellers, with a triple rudder system. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 5,750 horsepower.
Her electrical power is provided by two, Caterpiller D-3304 generator sets. The tug's capacities are 155,000 gallons of fuel oil, 15,000 gallons of potable water, and 3,300 gallons of lube oil.
The towing gear consists of a Markey TDSDW 36C, double drum, towing winch. Outfitted with 2,000(ft) of 2.25(in) towing wire on the primary drum. And, 2,600(ft) of 2 1/8(in) wire on the secondary drum.
