Built in 1981, by the Service Machine and Shipbuilding Corporation of Amelia, Louisiana (hull #140) as the Alpha for Action Marine Incorporated of Luling, Louisiana.
In 2005, the tug was acquired by New York Marine Towing Incorporated of Montauk, New York. Where the tug was renamed as the Specialist.
In 2008, she was acquired by Lafayette Workboat Rentals Incorporated of Broussard, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as The Rock.
In 2012, the tug was acquired by Andrie Incorporated of Muskegon, Michigan. Where the tug was renamed as the Meredith Ashton.
In 2016, she was acquired by Great Lakes Dock and Materials of Muskegon, Michigan. Where the tug she retained her name.
In 2020, the Great Lakes Dock and Materials Company renamed the tug as the George F. Bailey.
Powered by two, Cummins KTA-38M diesel engines. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 1,240 horsepower.
