Built in 1975 by Colberg Incorporated at Stockton, California as the Lassen for the Bay Cities Transportation Company of San Francisco, California, a subsidiary of the Crowley Maritime Corporation of San Francisco, California.

Operations of the Bay Cities Transportation Company were eventually merged into those of the Crowley Maritime Corporation. Where the tug retained her name.

The tug was later acquired by the Shaver Transportation Company of Portland, Oregon. Where she retained her name.
