Built in 1975, by Weaver Shipyards Incorporated of Orange, Texas (hull #162) as the Mohawk Express for the Mohawk Towing Company Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana.

In 1977, the tug was acquired by Lombas Inshore Marine Service Incorporated of Larose, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Setting Sun.

In 1985, she was acquired by Lady Marine Incorporated of Belle Chasse, Louisiana. Where the tug was renamed as the Lady Dee.

In 1991, the tug was acquired by the Stapp Towing Company Incorporated of Dickinson, Texas. Where she was renamed as the Bill Stapp.

In 1997, she was acquired by the Waxler Towing Company Incorporated of Memphis, Tennessee. Where the tug was renamed as the Melanie D.

In 2007, the Waxler Towing Company Incorporated became SCF Waxler Marine LLC. of Memphis, Tennessee. Where she retained her name.

In 2013, she was acquired by the Dupre Marine Transportation Company of Houma, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Megan E. Dupre.

Powered by two, Cummins KTA38-M1 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 6:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 2,000 horsepower.
