Built in 1958, in Bayou La Batre, Alabama as the Sumter for Bryant Boats Incorporated of Mobile, Alabama.

In 1960, the tug was acquired by U.S. Leasing Incorporated of Mobile, Alabama. Where she retained her name.

In 1961, she was acquired by the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Sales Company of Mobile, Alabama. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1968, the tug was acquired by R.K. Davis Transportation Incorporated of Newport News, Virginia. Where she retained her name.

In 1972, she was acquired by the C and P Towing Company of Norfolk, Virginia. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1989, the tug was acquired by the Ryba Marine Construction Company of Cheboygan, Michigan. Where she was renamed as the Barbara Lyn.

In 1990, the tug capsized and sank off the Michigan Thumb of Lake Huron on while towing two barges to Alpena, Michigan.

She was a single screw tug, rated at 450 horsepower.
