Built in 1979, by Main Iron Works Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #348) as the Brandon J. for Weeks Marine Incorporated of Cranford, New Jersey.

In 1993, Weeks Marine Incorporated renamed the tug as the George W.

In 2020, the tug was acquired by Sound Marine Construction and Salvage Incorporated of Nyack, New York. Where the tug was renamed as the Matthew G.

Powered by two, Cummins 855M diesel engines. With Twin Disc MG-514B reduction gears, at a ratio of 5.16:1. Turning two, four bladed 56(in) by 44(in), stainless steel, fixed pitch, propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 680 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by two 40kW generator sets. Driven by two, John Deere diesel engines. The tug's capacities are 7,464 gallons of fuel, 140 gallons of lube oil, and 2,857 gallons of water.
