Built in 1978, by Terrebonne Shipbuilders Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #16) as the Buchanan 11 for Buchanan Marine Limited Partnership of New Haven, Connecticut.

In 2013, the tug was eventually acquired by Inland Marine Incorporated of Chesapeake, Virginia. Where she was renamed as the Betty Jo. And operated by Precon Marine Incorporated of Chesapeake, Virginia.

In 2023, she was acquired by the Hays Tug and Launch Company of Wallingford, Pennsylvania. Where the tug retained her name, and was "laid up" at Leesburg, New Jersey.

She is a twin screw tug, rated at 1,500 horsepower.
