Built in 1963, by the Phillip Ditta Shipyard of Belle Chasse, Louisiana as the Shell Fueler for John W. Stone Oil Distributor Incorporated of Harvey, Louisiana.

In 1974, the tug was acquired by F. Badeaux and Sons Towing Incorporated of Marrero, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Miss Carrie.

In 1974, she was acquired by SCNO Barge Lines Incorporated of St. Louis, Missouri. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1977, the tug was acquired by the Northern Barge Company Incorporated of Stillwater, Minnesota. Where the tug retained her name.

In 1981, she was acquired by C and H Marine Incorporated of Kampsville, Illinois. Where she was renamed as the Polly Jo.

In 1986, the tug was acquired by Pool 24 Tug Service Incorporated of Kampsville, Illinois. Where she retained her name.

In 2009, she was acquired by the Hex Stone Company of Louisiana, Missouri. Where the tug retained her name.

In 2011, the Hex Stone Company renamed the tug was the Chattie Sue Smith.

Rebuilt, and repowered in 1978. She is powered by two, Cummins KT19-M diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 6:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 850 horsepower.
