Built in 1981, by Sidney Henry Boat Builders Incorporated of Morgan City, Louisiana (hull #92-032) as the Jennifer D. for D and G Boat Rentals Incorporated of Morgan City, Louisiana.

In 1983, the tug was acquired by the Carline Companies of Gonzales, Louisiana. where she was renamed as the CSS Atlanta.

Repowered in 2005, she is driven by three Cummins KTA19-M3 diesel engines, with Twin Disc reduction gears. She is a triple screw towboat, rated at 1,590 horsepower.
