Built in 1980, by the Acadiana Shipbuilding Corporation of New Iberia, Louisiana (hull #60-2) as the Vickie Marie C. for C Craft Marine Services Incorporated of Golden Meadow, Louisiana.

In 1988, the tug was acquired by the Carline Companies of Gonzales, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the CSS Tennessee.

Repowered in 2008, she is driven by two Cummins KTA19-M3 diesel engines. With Twin Disc reduction gears, at a ratio of 5:1. She is a twin screw towboat, rated at 1,200 horsepower.
