MATTITUCK

Built in 1961, by the Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding Corporation of Somerset, Massachusetts (hull #T-63) as the Mattituck for the Suffolk County Department of Public Works of Yaphank, New York.

Designed by Preston Gladding of the Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding Corporation. The tug was designed to tow dredge equipment.

In 1977, the tug was transferred to the Suffolk County Departmentt of Environmental Control of Yaphank, New York. Where she retained her name. The tug was was used primarily at sewage treatment plants when Suffolk County's dredge equipment was sold off and subcontracted out.

In 1990, she was Suffolk County Department of Public Works of Yaphank, New York. Where the tug retained her name and she was used to transport the Public Work's newly acquired dredge.

In 2010, the tug was overhauled at Greenport Yacht and Shipbuilding of Greenport, New York.

In 2024, she was acquired by the Oysterponds Dockbuilding and Dredging Corporation of Orient, New York. Where the tug retained her name and the tug and is undergoing restoration work. She is primarily used to move construction scows, and perform assist work in Peconic Bay and the Long Island Sound area.

Originally powered by a single, Detroit Diesel 6-110 diesel engine with an Allison reduction gear, at a ratio of 2.5:1 for a rated 220 horsepower. Her electrical service was provided by one, Onan 32 VDC generator.

She was later repowered with a single Cummins QSM-11 diesel engine. With a ZF reduction gear, at a ratio of 2:1. Turning a single 38(in) by 24(in), fixed pitch propeller. She is a single screw tug, rated at 400 horsepower.

Her electrical service is provided by an inverter handling the 110 V house electric. The tug's capacities are 1,600 gallons of fuel.
