Built in 1972, by Main Iron Works Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #261) as the National Goal for National Marine Service Incorporated of Stafford, Texas.

In 1985, the tug was acquired by Compass Marine Services Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana. Where she was renamed as the Compass Goal.

In 1990, she was acquired by Dixie Marine Incorporated of Houston, Texas. Where the tug was renamed as the El Paso.

In 1997, the tug was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas, Where she retained her name.

Repowered in 1991, the tug is driven by two Caterpillar 3508 diesel engines. With Caterpillar reduction gears, at a ratio of 4.75:1. She is a twin screw, towboat rated at 1,400 horsepower.
