Built in 1962, by Gibbs Gas Engine Company of Jacksonville, Florida as the USCGC Catenary (WYTL-65606) for the United States Coast Guard.
In 1995, she was decommissioned. And was acquired by the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. Where she was renamed as the Growler.
In 2018, the vessel was acquired by Stasinos Marine LLC. of Weymouth, Massachusetts. Where she was repurposed as a towing vessel, and renamed as the Charles James.
In 2019, she was phased out of active service and was "laid up" at Gloucester, Massachusetts.
In 2019, the vessel was acquired by Mike Vinik of Vinik Marine Services Incorporated of Keyport, New Jersey. Where she was redocumented as a passenger vessel and was renamed as the Dorothy Elizabeth.
Powered by a single, Caterpillar D375 V-8 diesel engine. She was a single screw tug, rated at 400 horsepower.
