Built in 1974, by VAP Marine Incorporated of Amelia, Louisiana as the Mr. Ted for the Louisiana Towing Corporation of New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 1989, the tug was acquired by the Stevens Towing Company Incorporated of Yonges Island, South Carolina. Where she was renamed as the Island Trader.

Powered by two, GM 12V-71 diesel engines. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 800 horsepower.
