Built in 1978, by Modern Marine Power Incorporated of Houma, Louisiana (hull #23) as the Falcon for the South Bay Fuel Transportation Company of Shirley, New York.
In 1989, the tug was acquired by the Eklof Marine Corporation of Staten Island, New York. Where she retained her name.
In 1993, the Eklof Marine Corporation was acquired by the K-Sea Transportation Partnership Incorporated of East Brunswick, New Jersey. Where the tug retained her name.
In 2011, the K-Sea Transportation Partnership Incorporated was acquired by the Kirby Corporation of Channelview, Texas. Where the tug retained her name.
In 2013, the Kirby Corporation's Philadelphia Operation also known as River Associates Incorporated. Was acquired by the Vane Brothers Company of Baltimore, Maryland. Where the tug retained her name.
In 2020, the tug was acquired by Portland Tugs of Portland, Maine. A joint partnership between the Tradewinds Towing Company of New Orleans, Louisiana and Captain Brian Fournier of Portland, Maine. Where she was renamed as the Carol. Named after Captain Fournier’s late mother, Carol Fournier.
Originally powered by two, Detroit Diesel 12V71 diesel engines and rated 1,800 horsepower. In 2014, the Vane Brothers Company re powered her with two, Tier II compliant, Cummins K38-M diesel engines. With Twin Disc MG-540 reduction gears. Turning two, 82(in) by 66(in), four bladed, stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers. She is a twin screw tug, rated at 2,000 horsepower.
The tug's capacites are 35,000 gallons of fuel, 350 gallons of lube oil, 350 gallons of waste oil, and 4,200 gallons of water.
The towing equipment consists of a single drum, HBL XS-27H-5 towing winch. Outfitted with 2,000(ft) of 1.5(in) towing wire. As well as two, 65 ton, Patterson face winches.
