Built in 1970, by Halter Marine Services Incorporated of New Orleans, Louisiana as the Betty (hull #265) for the Southeastern Drilling Company Incorporated (SEDCO) of Dallas, Texas.

In 1971, the tug was acquired by the Jackson Marine Corporation of Houston, Texas, and transferred to the Panama flag. Where she retained her name.

The Jackson Marine Corporation was owned by the Halliburton Corporation of Houston, Texas. The company owned a total of ninety vessels. Consisting mainly of offshore tugs, and supply vessels. With some chemical transport and well stimulation vessels.

In 1982, the tug was listed by ABS as having sunk.

She was powered by two, sixteen cylinder, EMD 645E2 diesel engines. With Lufkin reduction gears. Turning two, 120(in), stainless steel, fixed pitch propellers. She was a twin screw tug, rated at 4,200 horsepower.

The towing equipment consisted of a double drum, Skagit, towing winch.
